Viterbo is one of the historic stops on the Via Francigena to Rome: you arrive from Montefiascone on the stage that drops through vineyards and tuff fields, and leave again towards Vetralla and Sutri. Nazareth Residence is inside the walls, on Via San Tommaso: from the trail you simply walk into town and reach the door, with no detours and no transport.
We host solo pilgrims, couples and organised groups: with 47 rooms in one property, a party of up to 100 people sleeps under the same roof instead of being split across several places.
The Montefiascone → Viterbo stage
- About 18 km, moderate elevation, mostly gravel track and Roman paving.
- It follows the ancient Via Cassia, the best preserved paved stretch in Lazio, and passes the Bagnaccio thermal springs.
- You enter the city through Porta Fiorentina or Porta Faul, then the medieval quarter of San Pellegrino.
- Next stage: Viterbo → Vetralla, about 18 km, continuing towards Sutri and Campagnano.
Stamp, thermal water and food
Reception, open 07:00–20:00, helps with credential stamps, weather, trail conditions and luggage transfer. The free thermal pools of Bullicame and Bagnaccio are ten minutes away, free of charge and open all year: sulphur water at around 40 degrees, the best recovery for tired legs.
For dinner, the in-house food service and the restaurants of the old town are a few minutes' walk away.
Cycling the route
Cyclists on the Francigena find locked storage, space for basic maintenance and the option to leave before standard breakfast. The same facilities are described on the Bike Hotel page.
