Nazareth Residence

Trekking in the Tuscia

Explore the trekking routes of the Tuscia: nature itineraries with guides and accommodation at Nazareth Residence. Breakfast included.

For walkers

The Tuscia is made for walking. Twenty minutes by car from Viterbo take you from medieval peperino to centuries-old beech woods, tuff gorges carved by the Etruscans and sulphur water that still surfaces warm in the middle of the fields.

Nazareth Residence is the base for those who arrive or leave on foot: inside the city walls, with free private parking, early breakfast and a laundry to sort your gear out in the evening.

Long-distance trails

  • Via Francigena: Viterbo is a historic stage on the way to Rome, arriving from Montefiascone and heading on to Vetralla and Sutri.
  • Cammino Tuscia 103: a staged loop through villages, woods and Etruscan sites of the Viterbo area.
  • Sentiero dei Briganti: between Lazio and Tuscany, following the routes of 19th-century outlaws.
  • Ancient Via Amerina: the Roman road climbing the Tuscia among necropolises, gorges and ancient bridges.

Day hikes

  • Monte Cimino beech wood, UNESCO heritage: ancient beeches and the Pietra Rotonda, 20 minutes away.
  • Lake Vico Nature Reserve and Monte Fogliano: loop trails and autumn foliage, 30 minutes away.
  • Marturanum Regional Park, Barbarano Romano: gorges, Etruscan Vie Cave and rock-cut necropolises, 45 minutes away.
  • Treja Valley Park and the Monte Gelato waterfalls: water, woods and the village of Calcata, 45 minutes away.
  • Lake Bolsena loop: stages along the shore of the largest volcanic lake in Europe, 35 minutes away.
  • The walls of Viterbo: five kilometres of medieval ramparts, the easiest way to stretch your legs.

After the walk

The free thermal pools of Bullicame and Bagnaccio are ten minutes from the property, free of charge and open in winter too: sulphur water at 40 degrees is the best recovery after a day of climbing.
