Getting here and parking
- Where exactly is Nazareth Residence?
- At Via San Tommaso 30, in the old town of Viterbo, fifty metres from the medieval quarter of San Pellegrino — the largest in Europe — and a few minutes' walk from the Porta Romana railway station.
- Is there parking? And what about the restricted traffic zone?
- Yes: free private parking inside the town walls, reserved for guests, subject to availability. You can drive right into the heart of the old town without hunting for a space and without paying for parking. The property is not liable for theft of or damage to parked vehicles.
- How do I get here by train?
- Get off at Viterbo Porta Romana: it is the station inside the old town, about five minutes' walk from the Nazareth. From Rome it is served by the regional FL3 line, with one train an hour from Roma Ostiense — from Roma Tiburtina in some time bands — and one every two hours on public holidays. The city's other station, Porta Fiorentina, is further from the San Pellegrino quarter: if your train stops at both, get off at Porta Romana.
Your stay
- What are the check-in and check-out times?
- Check-in is from 12:30 and is possible 24 hours a day thanks to self check-in: if you arrive in the middle of the night you can still get in. The reception desk is staffed from 07:00 to 20:00. Check-out is by 10:30. You can ask the evening before for a late departure, subject to availability: until 12:00 a quarter of the rate applies, until 14:00 half the rate, after 14:00 the full rate.
- Is breakfast included?
- Yes, the buffet breakfast is included in all rates and is served from 07:30 to 10:00 in the breakfast room. Food and drinks may not be taken out of the room. Early risers — Via Francigena pilgrims and cyclists above all — can have breakfast from 7:00, and a packed lunch to take on the road is also available on request, for a fee.
- What types of rooms do you have?
- There are 47 rooms: singles, doubles, twins, triples and family rooms. All with private bathroom and free Wi-Fi.
- Can I bring my dog?
- Pets are allowed only with prior authorisation from the management: write or call us before booking and we will tell you straight away whether we can welcome your pet. Anyone bringing an animal remains responsible for its behaviour and for any damage.
- What do I need on arrival?
- A valid identity document for each guest, as required by law, and a credit card as a guarantee. Only the people registered at check-in may stay in the room.
- Is smoking allowed?
- No: smoking is prohibited in all indoor areas, rooms included, and the ban also covers electronic cigarettes. Smoking is allowed in the dedicated outdoor areas. The house rules provide for a 150 euro charge for anyone smoking in a room.
- Are there quiet hours?
- Yes, from 22:00 to 07:00. In the common areas we ask you at all times not to raise your voice and to keep music and television at a low volume: the Nazareth often hosts groups on retreat and families with children.
- How is the tourist tax paid?
- The City of Viterbo tourist tax is settled directly at the property, in cash or by card: it is not included in the room rate and is not paid online in advance. The amount is 2.30 euro per person per night, it applies for a maximum of three consecutive nights — from the fourth night on it is no longer charged — and guests under 16 are exempt.
- Can I cancel my booking?
- For individual bookings cancellation is free up to one week before arrival. From then until two days before, 50% is retained; in the last two days the rate is non-refundable. For groups, cancellation terms are agreed at the time of booking: since many rooms are held together, every case has its own requirements and we put them in writing along with the confirmation.
- Is there Wi-Fi?
- Yes, free throughout the property.
Groups, events and retreats
- Do you host large groups?
- Yes, and it is what we do best. With 47 rooms and around a hundred beds, the Nazareth is the only property inside the walls of Viterbo able to host a group of fifty to a hundred people without splitting it between different hotels — plus private parking, the park and a dining hall seating 120.
- What spaces do you have for meetings, conferences or ceremonies?
- An internal church seating 120 and a chapel seating 30, two meeting rooms seating sixty and fifty plus a smaller meeting room, a dining hall seating 120 and a private park of 3,000 square metres with centuries-old trees. Catering is in-house, so lunches and dinners are organised without leaving the property.
- Can spiritual retreats be organised here?
- Yes, it is one of the vocations of the house. Besides the church and the chapel for celebrations and moments of prayer, there are rooms for meetings, the park for open-air meditation and the possibility of building programmes around themes such as Christian spirituality, prayer, theology, Church history, the lives of the saints and discernment.
If you travel in a particular way
- I am walking the Via Francigena.
- The Nazareth is at the end of Stage 40, from Montefiascone to Viterbo, about eighteen kilometres. Pilgrims with a credential get the Pilgrim Rate with a 10% discount, the credential stamp at check-in, quiet rooms, same-day express laundry, video-monitored bike storage with a repair corner and breakfast from 7:00, with a packed lunch on request. Arrival time is not a problem: self check-in works 24 hours a day, even when reception has closed.
- I am arriving by bicycle. Where do I put it?
- In the room with you, or in a closed, video-monitored area. The Nazareth is a FIAB-affiliated bike hotel, listed in the Albergabici and Cicloturismo.com networks: there is bike washing, a corner for basic repairs, a self-service laundry and flexible hours for those on two wheels.
- I am a student or a lecturer at the Università della Tuscia.
- There is a 15% discount for UNITUS students and lecturers with a university ID. The university is about fifteen minutes' walk away. There are single and double rooms, spaces to study, bike storage and flexibility on long stays during exam periods.
- Where can I eat?
- A few steps away: the Nazareth has agreements with quality restaurants 50 to 70 metres from the property. You walk out and you are at the table in a minute, without getting back in the car and without leaving the medieval quarter. At reception we will tell you which ones and book for you. For groups and events there is in-house catering and the dining hall seating 120: you eat on site without moving anyone.
- How do I get to the Terme dei Papi?
- By public transport: the stop is 150 metres from the property, so there is no need to get back in the car — and since the car park is inside the walls, that is a real advantage: you leave it where it is. For groups a shuttle service is available on request, with a cost to be agreed depending on the number of people: ask when you book or directly at reception.
